9 Ways to Make Time for Your Partner While Wedding Planning

Customize your own event checklist with due dates, personal reminders, and timelines for all your wedding to do’s.
Choosing vendors, making decisions, staying on budget, and balancing multiple opinions can be tough. But, it's important that you and your partner don't let wedding planning drive you apart. From putting more date nights on the calendar to setting a planning schedule, spending quality time together that doesn't involve pre-big day prep is a must. Here are nine ways to spend more time with your S.O. while finalizing your "I dos."

1. Talk about something other than the wedding.

Make sure that at least one conversation a day doesn't include any talk of the "I dos." It's vital that you separate planning from your day-to-day lives. Making a conscious effort to not talk about the big day will do just that.

2. Plan more date nights.

Going on a date is the perfect way to get your mind off of planning. Head to dinner, catch a flick, or see a concert. We promise it will be more fun than deciding between peonies or hydrangeas.

3. Support your partner's hobbies.

Does your better half play on a sports team? Does he or she have an art show coming up? Take the time to go support your partner and his or her hobbies, even if you don't normally do so. Showing your love in spontaneous ways will reaffirm just how dedicated you are to the relationship.

4. Limit your planning to certain nights of the week.

Make sure wedding planning doesn't become a daily habit. Set a schedule where you limit the days when you will follow up with vendors and it will ensure that it won't consume your life.

5. Don't work after 10 p.m.

Set a cutoff time and stick to it. It can be so easy to lose yourself in a project and work all night long. Make sure you stop after a certain time to relax and spend some quality time with your significant other.

6. Keep one weekend day free.

Saturday and Sunday are for hanging out with your loved ones and having fun. Keep either day free to do the things you enjoy with your partner.

7. If you must meet with a vendor on a weekend, make it a good time.

If you have to meet with a vendor on one of your "no plan" days, make an event out of it. Bring your better half along and head out on the town afterwards. He or she will be happy to be included and you'll get to spend the entire day together.

8. Have a DIY date.

If you or your main squeeze like to get crafty, turn it into a date night activity. Make it enjoyable by wearing comfy clothes, playing great music, having awesome conversations, and ordering takeout.

9. Include your S.O. in the decision making process.

It's super important to include your partner as much as possible. If your partner is involved in the planning, he or she won't feel like you're spending more time on the "I dos" than you are on the relationship.
