Ever wonder who coughs up more cash for a wedding: the bridesmaids or the groomsmen? Well, according to a recent GOBankingRates survey, it's actually the guys who are paying a bigger price tag to participate in their pal's big day. The survey, which was conducted amongst 1,000 recent bridesmaids and groomsmen, broke down exactly how much each party was spending on the pre-wedding and day-of duties.
Surprisingly, groomsmen are paying more on average for their attire. The typical spend for groomsmen was $245.50 last year, and the spend for bridesmaids was $214.58.
Maybe not so surprisingly, groomsmen are outspending bridesmaids on pre-wedding festivities by about $244.
The approximate cost for a bachelor party in 2016 was $681.13, but bridesmaids reported spending approximately $437.31 for bachelorette parties.
Of the Best Men polled, their average spend on the bachelor party was $998.78, compared to the $552.33 that Maid of Honors reported spending. On the gift giving side, 30% of groomsmen spent $200 or more on gifts, but only 20% of bridesmaids spent that amount.
One common finding? 30% of bridesmaids and groomsmen said that they ended up spending more than they had planned on their friend's wedding day. No surprise there, huh?
