1. Talk with your partner about what sort of ceremony you both envision. Is it religious, interfaith, or secular? Is it intimate or does it include your extended families? What types of songs or readings do you want to include?
2. From lavish aisle decor to a simple DIY altar or chuppah, your ceremony style sets the tone for the rest of the day. You can tell the story of your relationship through details that let your guests know who you are and what your tastes are as a couple. What do you envision? This will likely affect the date you choose, the location, and even what you wear.
3. Research whether there any laws or religious traditions that will affect where you get married. Some religions require you to get married indoors, so be sure to consider that. If you’re thinking of having a destination wedding, check on the laws and residency requirements; some countries require you to be a resident! And if you want a friend to marry you, be sure his or her certification is legal in the state where you’ll be married.
