Flowers will last longer when kept in a cool place. If your florist is delivering blooms the night before, or if you’re DIYing, keep stems in a vase filled with water and place it in the refrigerator if possible. Corsages, boutonnieres, and flower crowns should also be spritzed with water and placed in the refrigerator.
Tired of fabric bows coming undone on your chair covers or decor? Spray hairspray on the fabric until damp, then hold in place as the hairspray dries for a bow that will stay perfect throughout the ceremony and reception.
You never know where you’ll need a spare stem. If your bouquet begins to wilt before the photos, or the flowers on your cake begin to turn brown, you can quickly replace with a fresh bloom.
Nothing is worse than a guest accidentally brushing against your chalkboard sign and ruining it. Once your sign is perfect, spray with a light coat of polyurethane sealant to make sure your sign stays intact throughout the evening.
Worried that the tapered candles adorning your tables will burn out in the middle of the reception? Before buying your candles, test out a few options to see which lasts the longest. Buy three or four different types of candles, then light them all at the same time, keeping track of how long each lasts. That way, you can better plan the number of candles you’ll need and how long they’ll burn for.
Looking to float some pretty petals in a centerpiece or body of water? Cut a small circle of bubblewrap, then poke the stem of the flower through it. The plastic will ensure the flower stays afloat. Just make sure to cut the bubblewrap small enough so guests don’t notice!
If you’re hosting an outdoor reception, bugs can be a major issue. For a centerpiece that will keep the bugs away, fill a mason jar with approximately 40 drops of essential oil (cedarwood, lavender, lemon, and thieves work best), 2 fresh lemons and 2 fresh limes, 8 sprigs of rosemary, and water for an all natural repellant that is as pretty as it is practical.
