Are you on the hunt to find the perfect wedding dress for your big day? One of the most important, and exciting, aspects of planning your wedding is deciding on the perfect wedding dress! As part of Loverly’s Wedding Dress Diaries Series, we’ll be walking you through everything you need to know about one of the most well known names inside and outside of the bridal industry – Vera Wang.
Everything You Need to Know About Vera Wang Wedding Dresses
Wang famously burst onto the bridal scene in the 90s with a collection of streamlined designs to combat the frou frou wedding dresses that were fashionable in the 80s. A true creative, she first designed her own wedding dress before opening a bridal boutique and launching her own brand. More celebrities and VIPs have worn Vera Wang down the aisle than can be counted on two hands, such as Mariah Carey, Victoria Beckham, Kaley Cuoco, Ivanka Trump, Chelsea Clinton, Alicia Keys, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Garner, Hilary Duff, former First Daughter Barbara Bush, model Lily Aldridge, both Kim and Khloe Kardashian. I can keep going but you get the point. Lastly, Vera Wang manufactures the majority of its bridal collection in company-owned workrooms in the United States.
A Brief History Of Vera Wang
Growing up, Vera trained as a competitive figure skater before joining the world of fashion upon her graduation from Sarah Lawrence College. She joined Vogue immediately after college and stayed at the publication for 17 years until she joined Ralph Lauren as the brand’s design director. The conception of Vera Wang, the brand, started in 1989 when the designer was due to wed Arthur Becker. Unable to find a dress, she sketched her own dress and had it made, which planted the seed for Vera Wang bridalwear. In 1990, she launched her brand in the very chic Carlyle Hotel on Madison Avenue in New York City. In 2000, she launched a ready-to-wear collection, which continues to be produced today. Beyond bridal and fashion, Wang also has a foot in the worlds of publishing, fragrance, beauty, accessories and home decor.
