4 Reasons to Choose a Venue That's UNDER Budget

Discover, manage, and track all of your vendor communication, contracts, and timelines in one place.
Your venue is undoubtedly one of the most important decisions you'll make when it comes to your wedding (besides who you're going to marry, of course). This space will serve as the setting for your big day and be the backdrop of every photo and memory. So, shouldn't you throw down some serious dough to get the dream destination you've always hoped for?
Well, maybe not. While you want to love your venue—especially since it will dictate so much else when it comes to planning and the overall design of your nuptials—you don't want to choose a place that will stretch your budget too far. This is especially true since the venue is the first major cost you'll have when planning: Rest assured there will be many more along the way! Here are four very good reasons to consider selecting a venue that's actually under your max budget to ensure smooth planning from the moment you start figuring out the logistics until you walk down the aisle.

1. You want to save as much as possible on fixed costs.

Variable costs like food and drink can creep up—especially if more people reply "yes" than anticipated. The venue fee is one thing you can actually control since it likely won't change even if all of your third cousins decide to make it for the big day. Keeping fixed costs down allows you to spend a little more on the costs you can't necessarily anticipate.

2. You may not get anything more than a space.

If your venue is just a blank slate, you’re going to need to rent chairs, tables, linens—the list goes on. But even if your venue comes fully stocked, you may not like the inventory it provides for your event. (Most venues have standard white or black linens, white china and folding chairs, which may or may not be part of the design you’ve always envisioned for your big day.) Over-spending on four walls can end up blowing your budget later as the rental costs mount.

3. You’ll have more to spend on décor and entertainment.

While the venue is important, tailoring the space—and the party atmosphere—to your needs and wants is also paramount. Spending less on the space allows you more room for creativity with your flowers, decor, music, and more. This is especially important if you don’t want your wedding to look like every other celebration in a given space—it takes money to create that blog-worthy look, after all. Having a nice budget for a great band can go farther in providing an awesome vibe for you day more than the actual location will, too.

4. You can cover costs you didn’t think about.

Inevitably, you’re going to come across charges you didn’t expect—and never built into your budget. (We’re talking things like sales tax, cocktail napkins, corkage fees and alterations, as well as any last-minute or emergency purchases that come up.) By being conservative early on, you won’t be stressed when those other costs come in. In fact, you’ll have anticipated the possibility of extra line items in your budget by being smart from the get-go.
