4 Makeup Do's and Don'ts for Summer Weddings

Discover, manage, and track all of your vendor communication, contracts, and timelines in one place.

The DON’Ts

1. Don’t skip the SPF.
Those glorious rays of sunshine feel might feel nice after a long winter, but they're often much stronger than you think... Choose foundations, BB creams, CC creams, and tinted moisturizers that have plenty of SPF coverage (but make sure to reapply if you're outside for a while). This way, you won't have to ruin your makeup by adding a layer of oily sunscreen.
2. Don’t forget that less is more.
If ever there was a time to steer clear of overdoing it on your makeup, it's the sweltering summer, when it's most likely to run and look cakey. Embrace that easy breezy summer vibe and keep your look light and fresh. Focus on high-quality products that'll really go the distance.
3. Don’t brush on sparkly bronzer.
The last thing you need is extra shine... We're all for faking a little summer glow (especially early in the season), but skip the sparkles and opt for a matte powder you can brush on your face and shoulders (just be careful not to stain your dress!).
4. Don’t do dark colors.
Dark colors are likely to look heavy and wintery. Instead, opt for a light eyeshadow and pair it with a soft lip color and nail polish. These colors won't fade as drastically as dark colors, so you won't need to touch up as often if your makeup starts to fade!

The DO's

 1. Stick with waterproof makeup.
Whether you're off to a beachside affair or a rustic outdoor event, you’re bound to get a little sweaty and you want to be sure your makeup actually stays on your face. Skip the melting eye makeup and save time on touchups with waterproof mascara and eyeliner (which will also stand up to those happy tears).
2. Opt for a matte foundation.
Your skin has more moisture in the summer than it does in the winter, and a matte foundation will hide the shininess that comes with summer heat. Matte makeup will stay put longer and hide the shine, plus it won't fade throughout the day.
3. Pack some blotting papers.
If you struggle with constant shine, especially in warm weather, keep some blotting papers your purse. Just a quick swipe will do wonders, and fitting that little packet in your clutch will be way easier than toting along all of your beauty products.
4. Choose cream-based eye-shadows.
Primers help powder shadows stay put, but are problematic because they don't stay on all day. Cream-based shadows are easy to apply and are usually waterproof. Plus, with their thick texture, they won't easily until you're ready to wash them off. Want more?
