According to Madcap, "Six One Six is enjoyable, trustworthy, and balanced: designed to be a delicious coffee that everyone can savor and trust everyday, much like the city itself." • Chile Pepper Extracts

    Henry Family Farm

Chile Pepper Extracts - Hot hot hot! (Literally.) We're thrilled to carry an exclusive David Rosengarten find! From a small family farm in the Shenandoah Valley, VA, Rosengarten brings us a totally one-of-a-kind treat. Not quite hot sauce, these Chile Extracts are precisely that – extracts. (Think vanilla extract: pure essence.) Bright, vegetal flavors sing through, as does VERY serious heat, making for a distinctive taste experience. Use these in cooking – one drop of the fiery liquid will season an entire pot of chili (yes, seriously, one drop), or as a base for homemade salsas and hot sauces tailored to your own taste. Florence Fabricant, from The New York Times says, "These chiles are a find." Judy Hevrdejs from The Chicago Tribune says, "These extracts deliver intense flavor." "World's 10 Spiciest Hot Sauces" -- ranked by The Daily Meal Red Naga Jolokia Also known as the Ghost Chile, this much-storied hot pepper is known for being high up on the scoville scale, a scale that measures the “spicy heat of hot peppers. It is about 8 times hotter than a habanero. Ponder that one for a second. Ride this heat wave, though, and you’ll detect a deep, tomato-esque fruity-ness. It’s particularly at home in dishes that already have lots of flavor, such as gazpacho, caponata, chili con carne. Yellow Fatali The Yellow Fatali varietal, hailing originally from Africa, brings some heat (about 125,000-325,000 scoville units, vs. the Ghost peppers' 800,000), while showcasing the habañero family's traditional flavor and aroma. It’s fruity, but also a bit sweet (and, of course, intensely hot!). It works particularly well in Indian dishes, but is quite versatile. Yellow Datil Similar to the yellow fatali, but a bit lighter in color…with additional notes of citrus and avocado. Great for grilled chicken! Green Jamaican Lime Surprisingly this contains no lime! Rather, the pepper itself is particularly tangy, brimming with bright, citrus notes and that s

  • Chocolate Covered Dulce De Leche Alfajores

    Buenos Angie's

Chocolate Covered Dulce De Leche Alfajores - When these gorgeous, buttery, gooey sandwich cookies came across our tasting table, there was no debate: they were a must-carry. Made in the style of traditional Argentine alfajores , they are handmade in Queens by Angie herself, and are as good as (dare we say better than?) the best Argentina has to offer. Just-cakey-enough, rich butter cookies plus a slather of just-sweet-enough caramel equals one killer treat. And when you dip it in chocolate?!! We've died and gone to cookie heaven. tip of the tongue The cookie version of an it's-it ice cream sandwich. (Bonus foodie points if you know what an "it's-it" is without googling it.)

  • Dry Rye Gin

    St. George Spirits

Dry Rye Gin - St. George calls this distinctive spirit " a gin for whiskey lovers—and for gin im-purists who don't mind malty, warm rye gettin' all up in their juniper's grill." Nah, don't mind at all. Dry Rye starts out with a base of white Rye whiskey, a riff on the Dutch Genever (juniper) style of gin. Then they infuse the flavor of just six botanicals: Juniper berries, black peppercorn, caraway, coriander and grapefruit and lime peel, all selected to play up the peppery tones of the juniper. Dry, spicy and just a teeny weeny bit savory (that's the caraway), it's one of the most creative juniper-forward gins we've ever tasted. The folks at St. George love gin so much they couldn't make just one. Instead, they crafted three, each with a distinctive blend of botanicals. The trio of Dry Rye, Terroir and Botanivore makes a great gift for gin drinkers – stunning and affordable. St. George can't always keep up with demand so when all three are available, we recommend snatching them up. tip of the tongue This rich, bold gin is fantastic in classic gin cocktails, but it also makes for a delicious twist on classic rye cocktails, like the Old Fashioned (skip the fruit on this one): In the bottom of a rocks glass, muddle 1/2 teaspoon sugar and 2 to 3 dashes Angostura bitters until the sugar is dissolved. Add three ice cubes, stir, then add 2 oz Dry Rye Gin and stir again. Garnish with a freshly cut lemon or orange twist (be sure to twist it over the drink to release some of the fragrant oils). Did you know? Gin can be infused with a wide variety of botanicals, but it MUST contain juniper berries, which are responsible for that distinct, piney, gin-y flavor.

  • Due North Rum

    Van Brunt Stillhouse

Due North Rum - This lightly-aged rum is slightly dryer than most, with just a hint of sweetness that lingers after each sip. It's got some nutty and oaky flavors too, picked up from four or five months in new American oak casks, which also give it its beautiful golden color and mellow warmth. Van Brunt Stillhouse starts with organic, unprocessed sugar from small family farms, then distills it in small batches. Every step, from fermentation through bottling, is done by hand. Due North rum was created as homage to the time before Independence, when distilleries all along the Northeast coast would import molasses (a waste product from the sugar plantations in the Caribbean colonies, thanks history class) to make rum. tip of the tongue We recommend sipping it straight, with a tiny splash of water to bring out every flavor. If you're in a cocktail mood, try a classic daiquiri: Combine 2 oz Due North Rum, 1/2 oz simple syrup and 3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice in a cocktail shaker with lots of ice. Shake until very cold and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

  • Nocino Walnut Liqueur

    Monteverdi Spirits

Nocino Walnut Liqueur - We’re nuts about Nocino! It’s a sweet, rich and earthy walnut liqueur that's been made in northern Italy and Switzerland for as long as anyone can remember. This version from Monteverdi made in the Napa Valley might even be better than the imports. Since it's made in California wine country, Monteverdi starts with grape-based neutral spirits. They add unripe walnuts and a secret blend of spices to infuse, then just enough sugar to balance out the tannins in the walnuts (that bitter taste that makes your mouth feel dry). tip of the tongue One cocktail worthy of Nocino is the Bittersweet Serenade: Stir 1 oz Nocino, 1 oz apple brandy, 1 oz Amontillado sherry and 1 to 2 dashes Angostura bitters over ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and finish with a twist of orange peel. ingredients 30% alcohol by volume; comes in a 375ml bottle.

  • Lagrein 2012

    Channing Daughters

Lagrein 2012 - A versatile, elegant red, Lagrein is incredibly well-balanced, earthy and spicy, but with a sweet hint of blackberry. We love that these Northern Italy-native grapes were picked and de-stemmed by hand and stomped by foot, just like on "I Love Lucy," before aging for 13 years in oak barrels. Channing Daughters on Long Island has cultivated many wonderful wine grapes rarely seen in New York, or even the USA. But this doesn't mean they're stuffy or esoteric. tip of the tongue This is the wine we drink with pizza, because it's easygoing and rough-around-the-edges, like your very best friend sitting next to you in the convertible, hair blowing in the wind. (Ah, summer.) Did you know? Wineries can use different kinds of oak to age their wines. French is some of the subtlest, while Slovenian gives a little more vanilla, and American adds the most potent flavor. Channing Daughters ages Lagrein in a mix of separate French and Slovenian oak barrels, then blends them together. ingredients 12.5% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.

  • theARTof redwine 2012

    Artur Podniesinski

theARTof redwine 2012 - When we tasted this gem made of 100% sustainably-farmed Syrah from a top-secret vineyard, we knew we'd found the one for us. With luscious full body and a bold, earthy flavor, it’s a terrific table wine for meat dishes but interesting enough to drink all by itself. Wait, there's more: Then we found out that Artur Podniesinski has only been making wines since 2008, when he started working as a an intern at Figge Cellers in Monterey, California. Only tiny amounts are made by hand, so our desire to keep on drinking it is so strong. tip of the tongue Artur recommends drinking this wine with a burger, not just because they're a perfect match, flavor-wise, but also because he thinks people should drink his wine in a relaxed, fun setting. ingredients 14.4% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.
