  • Cabernet Sauvignon Bei du Rocchi Ranch 2006

    Old World Winery

Cabernet Sauvignon Bei du Rocchi Ranch 2006 - Big and full-bodied, with lots of ripe fruit and a hint of black pepper and vanilla, this is a classic "Cali Cab Sav" with enough age to show off delicious maturity. Nothing says California red wine like 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in oak casks. And this is truly one of the best we’ve ever tasted. The vineyard is only 3 miles from the Pacific, so the vines breathe in the salty air and the wine spends 20 months in French oak before bottling. (Ah, retirement.) The folks at Old World make wines that not only taste wonderful, but also are true to their vineyards. They never add yeast because they think the native yeast better expresses the wine’s origins, much like soil and growing conditions tie grapes to certain regions. tip of the tongue We were thrilled to get a Cabernet this good, with this much age, for this price. Grab one to drink now and one to open in a few more years.

  • Chardonnay Freedom Hill 2012

    St. Innocent Winery

Chardonnay Freedom Hill 2012 - Chardonnay drinkers tend to fall into one of two camps: those who love the big and buttery California style, or
those who favor the lighter and more stoney French wines. Thankfully, there is a wine maker in Oregon with a Chardonnay so special it'll please both (hooray for bipartisan wine!). St. Innocent's Freedom Hill is fermented entirely in French oak barrels for 11 months. A little West Coast richness with some Burgundy-esque minerality means we can’t stop drinking this beauty. And if you've never had an aged white wine, this is the perfect bottle to start your cellar. It will continue to develop for up to 8 years after its vintage date. Imagine your 2020 self – won't you be thirsty for a retro Chardonnay? (My, you look good in 2020!) tip of the tongue Serve with risotto, or enjoy at happy hour with Vermont Creamery's Fresh Goat's Milk Cheese.

  • Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon

    Breckenridge Distillery

Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon - When it comes to making a distinctive Bourbon, a high percentage of rye in the mash is a great start. And this one is only 56% corn with 38% rye (and the last 6% barley), which makes it one of the highest rye-content Bourbons out there. All this rye adds delicious spicy notes to bourbon's sweet and oaky flavors, though this bottle is less sweet than the average. And then there’s the Rocky Mountain snowmelt they use to bring it to the right proof – that is, to have a desirable alcohol content with all the warmth and none of the fire. The water's natural minerals enhance the mouth-feel for a creamy texture we just can't get enough of. tip of the tongue Searching for a less sweet Bourbon? This is the bottle for you!

Now that's what it's all about (clap clap!). tip of the tongue Sliver these and use as a fancy ice cream topping! ingredients Cocoa mass, cocoa beans, cocoa butter, soy lecithin, natural vanilla, sugar, golden syrup, baking soda. Comes in a lovely brown kraft 3.7 oz recycled cardboard box.

  • New York Salsa Verde

    Katchkie Farm

New York Salsa Verde - Made from farm-grown tomatillos, Katchkie Farm's salsa verde is tangy, tart and just a tad sweet. Plenty of onion and cilantro are the zesty frontrunners, backed by a boost of jalapeño heat, ever-essential garlic and a fresh vinegary finish. The farm in Kinderhook, New York grows produce for Great Performances, a New York City catering and events company, and a portion of profits go to support The Sylvia Center, a nonprofit committed to educating children about food and nutrition through hands-on cooking experiences. Tip of the Tongue We love this salsa verde with scrambled eggs, stirred into black bean soup or served with sweet potato chips. Pop open on a chilly day for a burst of spicy green to bring you back to the dog days of summer. Ingredients Tomatillos, onion, cilantro, jalapeno pepper, garlic, salt, white vinegar. Comes in a 15 oz jar.

  • The 1850 Barrel-Aged Cocktail

    Fluid Dynamics

The 1850 Barrel-Aged Cocktail - The 1850 is a twist on a Sazerac cocktail, swapping out rye for Germain-Robin Craft Method Brandy and Low Gap White Whiskey, with the traditional absinthe rinse. We love the hint of anise that the absinthe brings to the warm, rich flavors of the brandy, and the white whiskey keeps it from getting too sweet. All you have to do is pour a few licks over ice, add a dash of bitters (Peychaud's, please) and stir. It's like having a bartender from a fancy cocktail bar in your living room, anytime. Fluid Dynamics was created by distillers who make fantastic brandy and whiskey that they want to show off in cocktails. They mix the drinks with their fine spirits and local vermouth, then age 'em in oak barrels until they make one delicious, harmonized cocktail. tip of the tongue Fluid Dynamics' pre-mixed, barrel-aged cocktails are ideal for a party or anyone who wants a great cocktail without having to do the mixing (and the washing up). ingredients Made with Germain-Robin Craft Method Brandy, Low Gap White Whiskey and Germain-Robin Absinthe; 39% alcohol by volume; comes in a 1L bottle.

  • Seneca Drums Gin

    Finger Lakes Distilling

Seneca Drums Gin - Today's mantra seems to be "think local," and Finger Lakes Distilling did just that. Located in the center of New York State's most productive wine region, they decided to use wine grapes as the base for spirits, including this floral and complex gin. A grape spirit base makes for a richer, more flavorful gin, which is then infused with 11 different botanicals. What's “Seneca Drums? A sonic phenomenon heard over Seneca Lake in the summer., the locals claim it's a distant call from native Iroquois. Or maybe it’s just a reminder to pour another glass… tip of the tongue Master distiller Thomas Earl admits he has no idea how they got Seneca Drums to taste so good, adding that it reminds him of "a walk in the woods." It's so good, in fact, that it was voted New York's Best Spirit at the 2010 Wine & Food Classic. Did you know? Gin can be infused with a wide variety of botanicals, but it MUST contain juniper berries, which are responsible for that distinct, piney, gin-y flavor. ingredients 45% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.

  • Amberthorn Vermouth

Amberthorn Vermouth - What comes to mind when we hear "amberthorn"? Something honeyed, rich, smooth like amber, but with a little balanced kick from something herbal and bitter, in the best way. So, we're completely obsessed with what Amberthorn Vermouth actually is – a complexly flavored, rich, herbal white vermouth. It all starts with a North Fork Chardonnay, infused with fragrant aromatics including anise, lavender, basil and citrus. A dose of apple brandy from upstate New York gives it a sweet warmth, plus a drizzle of raw honey. That honey gives it a soft, mouth-coating texture, but the hints of sweetness are beautifully balanced by the bitter and herbal notes of the herbs, zests and roots. Atsby founder Adam Ford was inspired by vermouths he drank in Europe, but rather than just imitating what had already been done, he set out to create a truly New World vermouth. Indeed, it makes an inspiring cocktail, but we never have trouble finishing the bottle, because we'd happily sip it on the rocks every night before dinner. tip of the tongue We love to play up the apple notes in this vermouth by pairing it with more apple brandy. Combine 2 oz Amberthorn Vermouth, 3/4 oz apple brandy, 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice and a dash of lavender or celery bitters in a cocktail shaker with lots of ice. Shake until very cold and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. did you know? Vermouth is only 16% alcohol by volume, so it won't last forever once you've cracked that bottle open. We definitely recommend keeping it in the fridge and drinking it up within a few weeks.
