Thin slices of apples are suspended in this jar of swoon-worthy caramel apple preserves. Sharpen your sweet tooth, this is one sugary jam! But the lemon juice balances it out nicely. Also worth noting – Oak Park Illinois' Rare Bird Preserves has such a profound commitment to using the freshest ingredients possible, that the sun-kissed and freshly-picked fruits arrive in their kitchen just hours before preserving. tip of the tongue Stir into yogurt for an instant apple pie treat. Or bake into a pie for extra intensity. And here's what we've been doing at lunchtime – smear a little bit on a grilled cheddar cheese sandwich! So good.

  • Corretto Coffee Liqueur

    Roundhouse Spirits

Corretto Coffee Liqueur - Maybe you can relate to this after-dinner dilemma. The one where you want a hit of espresso to wake you up just enough to avoid slipping into a food coma, but also something strong and smooth to draw your evening out just a little bit longer? Our solution: Corretto Coffee Liqueur, which tastes like a rich, flavorful cup of coffee with notes of vanilla and a bit of molasses tang. It's sweet, but not overly so, with enough complexity to pair with dessert. (A brownie sundae with Spoonable caramel, perhaps?) The liqueur is made by steeping organic and fair trade coffee beans and whole vanilla bean in neutral spirits, then adding just enough cane sugar to balance out the bitterness. Roundhouse Spirits got their inspiration from cafe corretto, an Italian espresso "corrected" with a shot of liqueur. The beans hail from their favorite cafe, The Unseen Bean, in Boulder, Colorado. tip of the tongue Abide by "The Dude" (you're a Lebowski, we're a Lebowski) and make yourself the best White Russian ever. Combine 1 oz Corretto and 1 oz vodka in a rocks glass. Fill with ice and top off with cream.

  • Dark & Stormy Caramel Popcorn

    Butter & Scotch

Dark & Stormy Caramel Popcorn - A mainstay at Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the women behind Butter & Scotch combine their years of experience in the world of booze (one in the wine industry, the other a longtime bartender) with the world of sweets. The classic Dark and Stormy – everyone's favorite cocktail – has now morphed into our favorite caramel corn. The contents of a bag won't last very long, especially when it's made with Gosling's rum, lime zest, and freshly grated ginger. And we can't resist the adorable, well-designed packaging. Great for wintry days at home in front of a fire – or a movie! tip of the tongue The perfect bar snack for happy hour or a cocktail party. Sprinkle a handful on pistachio or chocolate ice cream for an easy but crowd-pleasing dinner party dessert.

If you're looking for a coffee that "tastes like coffee," this is it: nutty, mild, with notes of cocoa and light citrus. • James E. Pepper 1776 Straight Bourbon

    Georgetown Trading

James E. Pepper 1776 Straight Bourbon - This historically-inspired bourbon is aged for a minimum of four years and has a nice amount of rye mixed in with corn in the mash to add some spice and balance out the sweetness. We were sold on the taste alone, but this bottle also has a really interesting back story... The original James E. Pepper whiskeys are the oldest and most legendary whiskeys in the country! Established in 1776 (date sound familiar, American History buffs?), Pepper whiskeys were distilled throughout three generations, until production ceased in the 1950s. Georgetown Trading has brought back the fabled brand, and they did it justice, collecting and sampling bottles from throughout the Pepper history, from pre-, mid- and post-Prohibition production. They even acquired a "top secret" letter from Mr. Pepper himself, detailing his family recipe. Then they went in search of whiskeys that lived up to this tradition. tip of the tongue As bourbon has grown in popularity, several legendary brands have been reincarnated to celebrate the history of America’s contribution to the world of whiskey. It's history you can taste, so sip this one neat. ingredients 50% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.

  • Masterson's Rye Whiskey

    35 Maple Street

Masterson's Rye Whiskey - This subtly sweet rye (100% rye, in fact!) with tons of black pepper spice gets a beautifully smooth, rich finish from 10 years of aging in white oak barrels. With hints of dried fruit and vanilla, this is an elegant whiskey worth slowly sipping. Sipping slowwwwly. It's kind of a rare style, because a mash ( the mix of grains that get fermented and then distilled) that's 100% rye will turn into a sticky mess when fermented, literally gumming up the works. This is a true labor of love, because the distillers have to scrape out the still by hand between each batch. We're thrilled that 35 Maple Street discovered and bottled this very special rye. tip of the tongue Masterson's is named for William "Bat" Masterson, a figure from Old West history who was both a gunfighter and a lawman . We're not sure if we'd want to have a drink with him (we're not much for gunfighting), but we have to admit he's a uniquely American character, just as rye is a uniquely American spirit. ingredients Distilled from 100% rye; 45% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.

  • Old New Orleans Amber Rum

    Celebration Distillation

Old New Orleans Amber Rum - Old New Orleans Amber Rum is a blend of three rums made from Louisiana sugar cane and aged at least three years in used bourbon barrels. All that time in the barrel gives it a delicious caramel-y flavor with hints of vanilla, so it's great for sipping or mixing in cocktails. Head distiller and founder James Michalopoulos uses both a pot still (used for whiskey) and a column still (used for vodka) to get the best of both processes. The distillery took on eight feet of water during Hurricane Katrina, but thanks to the support of the community (and the growing popularity of his incredible rum), they made it through the aftermath of the storm and are thriving today. James is also a successful artist who specializes in brightly colored oil paintings of life and landscapes in New Orleans. Each bottle of rum is imprinted with one of these paintings. tip of the tongue Try this one in a daiquiri for a rich twist on a classic: Combine 2 oz Old New Orleans amber rum, 1 oz fresh lime juice and 1/2 oz simple syrup in a shaker with ice and shake until very cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. ingredients Distilled from Louisiana sugar cane; 40% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.

Summer Sipper - If you're anything like us, you've got a go-to soda stocked up in the refrigerator, a can or bottle you grab to sip on ice or add to your makeshift cocktails. Let 'em m ix up their own concoctions with the addition of bubbly seltzer (or a spike of spirit). Q Drinks' refreshing grapefruit soda sets the scene for many a great summertime soda (or cocktail). • Ron del Barrilito Three Star

    Edmundo B. Fernandez Inc.

Ron del Barrilito Three Star - There’s a time to mix, and a time to sip. This rum is for sipping. Nutty and earthy with a hint of warm spices, Ron del Barrilito is for fans of aged brandies and whiskeys. We really had no idea rum could taste so rich and complex, yet balanced. This has become our go-to gift for impressing fancy friends (no need for them to know it's such a good deal). The Fernandez family takes freshly distilled white rum and processes it the same way the French do with cognac, using an antique system brought to the U.S. over 100 years ago. It’s a labor of love, and they only produce around 9,000 cases each year (for comparison: one well-known producer also based in Puerto Rico makes about 20 million cases a year). For the Geeks: Instead of filtering, the rum is slowly moved through a series of oak tanks, where the sediment naturally sinks to the bottom. Then, it rests in wine barrels for 6 to 10 years until the family is ready to blend it into the perfect mix for bottling. tip of the tongue Daiquiri have gotten a bad rap, but this classic version is one of our favorite drinks ever. Combine 2 oz Ron del Barrilito, 1 oz simple syrup and 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice in a cocktail shaker with lots of ice. Shake until very cold and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. ingredients 43% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.

  • WhipperSnapper Oregon Spirit Whiskey

    Ransom Wines & Spirits

WhipperSnapper Oregon Spirit Whiskey - This young, ambitious whiskey has more character than most whiskeys 10 times its age! Ransom's distillers thought way outside the box here, and we think the result is one of the most fascinating youngsters on the market. WhipperSnapper is a blend of two whiskeys: One made from both malted and unmalted locally-grown barley, and another by re-distilling a Kentucky white corn whiskey to a high proof. These get combined, then split into a variety of barrels for aging: French pinot noir, new American oak and used American whiskey barrels. Ransom selects eight different barrels for each batch with an average aging time of one year, and blends them together for the final spirit. tip of the tongue Whiskey fans searching for something new will be fascinated by this one. We haven't tasted anything else quite like it. ingredients 42% alcohol by volume; comes in a 750ml bottle.

  • Spicy Bloody Mary Mix

Spicy Bloody Mary Mix - This makes the best Bloody Mary we've ever tasted. Spicy, sweet, and packed with vinegar, it's made with McClure's spicy pickle brine, tomato paste, fresh pressed cucumber juice and other fresh ingredients. Frankly, it's a bit of an obsession around here. Tip of the tongue Drink it as a vegetable juice cocktail or with your favorite vodka, and for an added bonus, garnish with a Rick's Picks Mean Bean. And we know this sounds nuts, but pour some into your favorite popsicle mold and you'll be blown away. ingredients Water, vinegar, tomato paste, cucumber juice, salt. Freshly chopped peppers, garlic, dill, black pepper. Comes in a large 32 oz jar.
